OUR STORY

The Anglesey Rec Academy was the brainchild of a group of friends who grew up loving the beautiful game and wanted others to experience the passion, camaraderie and joy that sports and football can offer.

Legendary league clubs like FC Kaleef and Rec FC that once created football poetry at the colosseum of Burton on Trent; Anglesey Rec, started to become a distant memory and thus the decision was made to reintroduce football into the area to create a new batch of legends.

There was a real absence of football academies or any type of organised football within the local Anglesey/Uxbridge vicinity, therefore plans were made in earnest to address this void and to bring football back to the area in May 2022. The decision to join Burton Junior football league in October 2022 was made, and initially an U9 & U10s team was formed to play in the league.

As well as this, Open sessions were also organised for other age groups to increase awareness of the beautiful game in the area. The purpose was to offer the children an opportunity to interact socially and have some fun, but also to act as a mechanism to bring in players who would've otherwise joined other teams in different areas of Burton.

Fast forward two years and the Anglesey Rec Academy are now an FA Affiliated Football Academy finishing the 23/24 season with six teams. The Academy have since added two more teams to their roster, and will begin the BJFL 24/25 season with eight teams.

This growth within two years has been extraordinary and has further underlined how dire the need was within the community.

The U12 Gladiators won the Second division title in their first ever season, achievement made even more remarkable by the fact that for many of the players it was their first serious foray into organised football.

With more teams in the pipeline to meet the demand for other age groups, the future looks promising for the Academy, and we will all become a part of our journey.
